Ramsey Man Fights City Over Driveway
Who says you can't fight city hall? A Ramsey man says he did just that and won, after he wasn't allowed to park his truck on his own property.
For Keith Kiefer, the battleground is his driveway.
"This driveway has been in existence longer than the city has been in existence," he explained.
The city of Ramsey told Kiefer he was violating city ordinances by parking his truck along the driveway. But the catch—the road isn't technically considered a driveway because it isn't paved and made from gravel.
"We have neighbors who are concerned about property values and so that is one of the jobs of the city is to protect property values of the neighborhood," said City Administrator Kurt Ulrich.
But instead of moving his truck, Kiefer dug in. After losing two appeals to the city, he went to the state appellate court and finally won—reversing the decision.
