Mesa must trim spending by $62 million over the next 19 months as a ravaged national economy plays havoc with city finances, the City Council was told Thursday morning.
The impact will roll through every corner of city government and will not spare the police and fire departments, City Manager Chris Brady said.
By the time Mesa finishes reorganizing City Hall, 346 jobs will have been eliminated, and 43 others could be outsourced. Already over the past few days, scores of city employees have been told they'll be out of work as of Jan. 9.
